How it all started...
South Suburban was founded in 1977 by a small group of families who longed for an EFCA church community south of the river. What began as a simple Bible study quickly grew—so much so that it soon outgrew the living room where they first gathered! As the church continued to flourish, land was purchased near the entrance of the Minnesota Zoo, and in 1983 South Suburban opened its doors at the location we still call home today.

Expanding the vision...
As our church family continued to grow, so did our need for space—twice! In 1988, we expanded to add dedicated Kids Ministry classrooms. Then in 2005, we opened a larger auditorium along with new Youth and Adult classroom spaces. These additions have enabled us to care for our growing congregation and to offer our facility as a welcoming place for groups throughout the southern suburbs. We’re grateful for the ways God has allowed us to be a blessing to our community.
Where we are headed...
As we look toward the future, we’re excited to continue building on the rich foundation of commitment to God’s Word that has shaped South Suburban from the beginning. We’re deeply grateful for God’s abundant provision over the decades, and we look forward with anticipation to seeing more people take steps closer to Jesus. Our prayer is that the gospel would continue to take root in our hearts and minds and bear lasting fruit in our lives and in our community.
